An Award by Hindus, for Hindus | What is Akshayya Hindu Award?

Recently, I had a heartfelt conversation with Rupa Dantale, Vice President at a well-known construction company (Ravetkar Group). While our call began casually, what followed was an inspiring insight into something truly powerful—the Akshayya Hindu Award. I had also read about this on Dr. Abhiram Dixit’s facebook wall. I thought everyone should know about this.

Rupa explained that her connection to the award began thanks to social activist Tushar Damgude. “He insisted I join the event once,” she said, “and I’m so glad I did.” What she witnessed deeply moved her—and since then, she’s remained actively connected to the mission behind the award through promotions and contributions.

What is the Akshay Hindu Award?

In simple terms, the Akshayya Hindu Award is an annual recognition started just two years ago by a group of people rooted in nationalist and Hindutva values. The idea was born from a simple yet powerful thought: while many of us talk about gods, dharma, and society on social media, real change happens on the ground. Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj— the award is a way for Hindus to honor those who are actually working for the upliftment of Hindu society.

What sets the Akshay Hindu Award apart is its unique approach. It is entirely crowd-funded—supported by everyday people, not large corporations or political entities. “This is everyone’s responsibility,” Rupa said. “If we want to see the society grow stronger, we must support the people who are putting in the real work.”

Another standout aspect? The awards are not given to celebrities or social media influencers. Instead, they go to grassroots workers who are bringing about quiet but meaningful change in their communities. And rather than inviting high-profile personalities to present the awards, the organizers choose fellow social workers to do the honors—keeping the spirit of service intact.

Who can receive this Hindu Award?

The Akshayya Hindu Award is given across five key categories, ensuring that different types of social efforts are highlighted:

  1. Tribal Welfare (Janajati Kalyan)
  2. Media & Literature
  3. Cow Protection (Go Samvardhan)
  4. Social Harmony (Samajik Samrasata)
  5. Religious Awareness (Dharma Jagran)

As per Rupa, for the first year, the awardees were from Pune and premises, but interestingly it has changed. She talked about the organisers’ focus on avoiding big metro cities like Mumbai and Pune when selecting winners. The aim is to spotlight changemakers from smaller towns and rural regions—particularly the youth, who can use this recognition as motivation to continue their good work.

This year’s ceremony will be graced by none other than Padmashri awardee Shri Chaitram Pawar, a widely respected social worker who embodies the very spirit of service the award seeks to honor.

Before ending our call, Rupa made a gentle but sincere appeal. “This is a Hindu Award by Hindu people for Hindu people who are working for Hindu Cause. So Hindu Society should come forward for this.” She said, “a people’s initiative.
